Quick answers

  • Share the spending limit before finalising the design.
  • Keep one focal feature and ask what can be simplified.
  • Confirm the actual quote and portions with Mari.

Identify the non-negotiable detail

Look at the reference and name the part that makes you love it: the heart outline, one large lily, a painted scene or the words on the board. That is the focal point. A useful budget conversation starts by protecting that idea and asking which surrounding details can change. Removing details at random can leave a cake busier in the wrong places and quieter where it matters.

Discuss a simpler composition

If you love…Ask about…
A large flowerA simpler surrounding border
Vintage pipingA smaller set of repeated patterns
Personal letteringA shorter line with generous space
A colour combinationA clear main colour and one accent

These are design questions, not guaranteed discounts. The effect on a quote depends on the actual work and the agreed order. Mari confirms which simplifications make sense.

Keep the practical information honest

Do not leave out guests, ingredients or handover needs to make an enquiry seem simpler. Those details help establish a suitable cake. If the budget and guest count need discussion, ask about options openly. The price-factors guide explains what belongs in a clear comparison between quotes.

Send priorities, not just a number

Use saved cakes to show the main feature and a simpler alternative, then add a note explaining the difference.

Questions people ask

Does simpler always mean a specific saving?

No. Ask Mari about the actual quote for the agreed version.

Should I reduce size before discussing guests?

Discuss the guest estimate and portions first, then decide a suitable size with Mari.
