Heart or round: which cake shape fits your celebration?
Compare heart, round, square and tiered cake compositions using real designs. Plan flowers, borders and lettering around the shape you love.

Quick answers
- Shape affects the composition, not just the outline.
- Flowers and borders reduce the space available for lettering.
- Confirm portions rather than estimating them from a photo.
Look at the outline first
A heart carries a recognisable silhouette even before decoration. A round cake creates a continuous edge for repeated piping or an off-centre flower. A square gives corners and straighter edges that can frame a graphic design. None is automatically the correct choice for a particular person; choose the outline you enjoy and then plan its details.

A deep border, large sugar flower or topper changes the usable top surface. The centre of a heart also has a different reading area from a broad round top. Decide whether the message belongs on the cake or the board before adding every decoration. The lettering guide explains how to prepare a clear line and exact spelling.
A visual choice, then a size discussion
A photograph can make a compact cake look large, particularly when the camera is close. Share your guest estimate and the intended role of the cake—main dessert or a smaller ceremonial slice. Use the size guide as a starting point, then confirm the shape and size together with Mari. A tiered drawing in the studio remains a sketch, not a structural specification.
