Quick answers

  • A reference is a starting point, not a promise of an identical result.
  • Describe the feature you want rather than sending an unexplained screenshot.
  • Attach the original reference yourself when you message Mari.

Name the important part

Start with one sentence: ‘I like the pale colour and one oversized flower, but I want a round cake with my own message.’ This identifies the intention without treating every object in the image as a requirement. If the reference contains several cakes or a styled table, mark which cake is relevant before the conversation begins.

Keep realistic expectations

Lighting, filters, screen settings and the material in the original cake can all change how a reference looks. A colour sample helps communicate a direction, but exact colour matching needs a discussion. Ask what is possible at the size and date you need. If a decoration’s material matters, confirm it rather than assuming it is edible from the photograph.

Send one coherent brief

The studio can preview an inspiration image locally while you sketch. It does not upload that image. Attach the photo yourself in the chosen chat when sending the enquiry.

Questions people ask

Can I combine two references?

Yes. Say which feature you want from each image and ask Mari to confirm a coherent final design.

Does adding a reference in the studio send it to Mari?

No. The studio preview is local. You attach the image yourself when messaging.
