Two-tier cakes: what to discuss before choosing one
Prepare a tiered cake enquiry around guests, visual balance, venue space and handover. Confirm the structure and practical details with Mari.

Quick answers
- A tall appearance is not a portion count.
- Tier sizes and decorations should be discussed together.
- Transport, supports and serving instructions need maker confirmation.
Decide why you want tiers
A second tier can create height and a place for a focal decoration. It can also change how the cake fits its setting and how it is handled. Start by explaining the occasion, guest estimate and the visual effect you want. Ask Mari whether tiers suit that brief instead of choosing solely because a photograph looks grand.

Look at the relative width of each tier and the decoration above it. A large flower, wings or a tall topper adds height beyond the cake itself. Send the reference that shows the proportions you like and identify the part you want to keep. A small sketch is useful for the outline, but the final structure is a maker’s decision.
Discuss the venue and handover
- Where will the cake stand, and is the space large enough?
- What is the agreed collection or delivery arrangement?
- Who will receive and position it?
- What supports or decorations must be removed before serving?
- What storage instructions apply to the finished cake?
Use the existing cake-care guide for questions to prepare, but follow Mari’s instructions for the specific order. Do not attempt to infer support or transport procedures from a photograph.
Confirm one complete specification
The studio has a tiered option for exploring proportions. Include a real reference and ask Mari to confirm feasibility.
Questions people ask
Does two tiers mean a fixed serving size?
No. Discuss the actual tier sizes, portions and design with Mari.
Does the studio show internal supports?
No. It is a visual sketch, not an engineering or assembly guide.
